A ndrea Harris - Artist Statement. For most of my life I have painted and designed, having been
influenced by my father’s photography and my grandmother’s garden. Even as a young child I was fascinated
by color and the changing light, and by the feel of a day as it transformed before my eyes. My education at
BSU (BA Theatre Arts and MS Educational Technology) have contributed to my respect for the importance
of communicative relationships in life, and that communication is, I believe, an intrinsic psychological element
that permeates my work today. I have enjoyed the challenges and rewards of working in watercolors for 40
years. Having a fairly wide range of subject matter, my work is both representational and abstract; and even
with a firm idea in mind I generally go where a painting takes me, hoping to combine both external and inner
observations to share with the viewer.
